The Fit Tester works across Unity Health Toronto. The primary responsibility of the Fit Tester is to provide staff education on the proper use and handling of N95 respirators and other respirators, as per the CSA standards. The Fit Tester conducts qualitative and/or quantitative respirator fit tests; performs data entry /clerical responsibilities; and performs administrative responsibilities, including maintaining client records.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares and maintains fit test equipment and supplies
- Provide fit-testing services at all three sites of Unity Health Toronto
- Provide fit-testing services off-site, when needed, for clients who request for service
- May be required to come in during non-regular hours to ensure evening and weekend employees can be fitted; and during pandemics
- Performs qualitative mask fit testing on clients by testing the seal between the respirator's face piece and clients face; method uses sense of taste or smell, or clients reaction to an irritant to detect leakage of the test substance into the face piece
- Performs quantitative fit testing; uses a machine to measure the actual amount of leakage into the face-piece and does not rely upon sense of taste, smell, or irritation in order to detect leakage
- Informs client which make, model, style, and size respirator fits their face properly, and when and where they will need to wear it for protection
- Informs clients how to put on and take off a respirator and how to use, clean, and maintain their respirator
- Provides staff education on the proper use and handling of N95 respirators, as per CSA standards
- Provides staff education on the proper use and handling of full/half face respirators, as per the CSA Standards
- Provides external customers with education on the proper use and handling of N95 respirators, as per the CSA standards;
- Records fit test data and enter information into the computer, in a timely manner
- Monitors and maintains required respirator supplies and masks
- Orders supplies needed for fit-testing
- Generates compliance reports for fit-testing
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in health and safety environment, preferred
- Enrolled in a degree or diploma in health and safety, preferred
- Science background preferred
- High proficiency in English
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Data entry and computer skills (Word, Excel)
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Unity Health Toronto
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- High level of problem solving skills
- Highly organized
- Must have an excellent attendance record
